Reaching Out in LoveThis is what it's all about. This is why Christ brought us together and made us Church. There are a lot of people who need help, a lot of people who need love, and a lot of work to do; "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." (Luke 10:2)
As Christians, we are invited into God's continuing work of creating the world. We are invited to live out what we hear in church every Sunday. This invitation is God's gift to us, God's way of saying to you, "I love you, and I need you to help." This is the Church's mission. Here at Our Redeemer's, there are several ways to get involved with the mission of the church. Mission includes everything from evangelism to volunteering to working with fellow churches and even non-Christians to do God's work in our community. What we are about extends far beyond what happens within our walls. Our purpose is best shown not by what we do on Sunday, but by what we are doing Monday through Friday. As theologian and author Frederick Buechner writes, “If you want to know who you are, watch your feet. Because where your feet take you, that is who you are.” (from The Alphabet of Grace) |
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matt. 28:18-20
